Rinse, gargle and spit. But be aware of hidden mouthwash dangers!
Millions of us use mouthwash as part of our daily routine, but how much do you really know about the product you’re using? Using mouthwash can contain many benefits but it all depends on which type you use, and many contain high levels of alcohol, which isn’t great for our dental health.
Using mouthwash that has fluoride in it can prevent tooth decay, but avoid rinsing straight after you’ve brushed. Pick a different time, like after you’ve had your lunch. And remember not to eat or drink for half an hour after you’ve used mouthwash.
Teeth Whitening: The secret to sparkling teeth?
Teeth whitening can, of course, help you achieve a brilliant smile, but using over the counter products will only lighten them a little. Reports also show that one-hour laser “therapy” can also dehydrate your teeth and gums, and the results are short lived. Use a proper dentist who will make custom trays for you and provide you with the best and safest whitening products available on the market.
What kind of toothbrush should I use?
Always use a toothbrush that has nice soft bristles. This will avoid needless trauma to your teeth and gums. If you use a hard brush, it can make your gums recede, and this isn’t good news for your teeth.
Don’t worry too much about the bleeding of the gums. But act fast!
If your gums decide to bleed when you floss or brush, keep your daily routine. Bleeding comes as a response to inflamed gums, but this isn’t necessarily from flossing or brushing too hard. To avoid periodontal disease and to reduce bacteria in the mouth, maintain your delay routine and the bleeding should eventually stop. If it doesn’t, speak to your dentist.
Having sensitive teeth doesn’t mean your teeth are going to fall out!
If your teeth are sensitive to cold drinks or ice cream, this doesn’t mean they’re in danger of irreversible decay. Using the correct products and keeping on top of your oral health with regular check-ups will heal the problem. However, if you have a toothache stemming from heat or biting pressure, this may need further and immediate attention.
