Are you worried about your dental hygiene? Not sure where your nearest dental hygienist is in Newcastle?
Ok, so having good teeth indicates how healthy and hygienic a person is while providing the confidence needed to face the world.
A flawless smile is achieved by practicing proper dental health like religious brushing of teeth and regular visits to the dentist and if you need an amazing dental hygienist and want to improve your dental hygiene, Newcastle patients can always rely on Ewan Bramley Dental Care.
And as part of our commitment to first class dental hygiene, here we have a chat with our new dental hygienist – Laura – who will give you some top tips on how to keep healthy as well as getting those pearly whites gleaming.
From eating the right foods to choosing a dentist you are comfortable with Laura’s guide to getting your nashers in prime condition.
“Having healthy white teeth has never been more important,” explains Laura.
“Latest research shows people boasting a gleaming set of teeth are seen as more intelligent and successful – and could actually live longer.
“Even though daily routines relax with retirement, it is crucial to stay regimented with dental care. Regular dental visits and good oral hygiene habits are even more important for older adults because of changes in health and side effects of certain medications.”
Some common dental concerns for older adults include dry mouth, missing teeth, oral cancer and gum disease. Luckily, with careful attention to symptoms and regular dental visits, these problems can be helped or prevented.
“In celebration of National Smile Month”, says Laura, “our easy to follow dental hygiene plan will keep you smiling.”
Rule number 1: Maintain a healthy diet
It may sound obvious, but eating anything with lots of sugar in it isn’t good for your smile. If you eat sugary foods regularly bacteria is allowed to thrive and can lead to gum disease and tooth decay.
And remember, the colour of the food you’re eating and the drink you consume also has an effect on your teeth. If it can stain white clothes, it can stain your teeth! Eating lots of curries and drinking too much coffee can have a big impact on your pearly whites.
Rule Number 2: Brush your teeth properly
You should brush for two minutes, twice a day – after breakfast and before bed.
Think about your mouth in four quarters – top right, top left, bottom right, bottom left – and spend 30 seconds on each.
And if you brush manually, make sure you do it in a gentle circular motion. If you’re too aggressive you’ll wear away your tooth enamel!
Rule Number 3: Buy a power brush
The biggest cause of gum disease is plaque and having an electric power brush removes plaque twice as much as a normal manual brush.
Power brushes break up harmful plaque and sweep it away.
Rule Number 4: Don’t forget to floss
Sometimes a tooth brush won’t be able to reach certain areas between each tooth and flossing is a great way to break up any remaining bacteria.
Take a long piece of floss, wrap it tightly around your index finger on both hands and gently pull between your teeth. It’s as easy as that!
