As we say goodbye to January and look forward to brighter days ahead in 2017, your local dentist Newcastle, Ewan Bramley Dental Care, expects lots of big changes in the world of dentistry this year.
From children’s dental health improvements and the ever popular topic of Brexit and its impact on the national fight against tooth decay, here we discuss some of the topical questions of the day so you can be better informed when it comes to oral health.
Here are our top four things to watch out for in 2017, and remember, you heard it from your local dentist Newcastle first!
Children’s dental health in 2017
Will our kids get better dental health in 2017? We all became accustomed to shocking headlines last year that the dental health of our children has been on the wane for quite some time now. According to the stats, over 30,000 children had to visit their local hospital last year to have one or more teeth removed and needed a general anaesthetic in the process.
The awful thing about all of this is that, in most cases, this course of action was completely avoidable and treatable. This year, we really want to see more dental health initiatives introduced to make a genuine difference to the future of children’s dental health.
How big a role will Brexit have on dentistry?
Good question! Brexit, of course, has left many things up in the air, and dentistry is just one of them.
Your local dentist Newcastle is waiting eagerly to see what Brexit will do for those practices who are privately owned like ourselves.
We hope that Brexit won’t have a negative impact on the prices of dental products and procedures, for example, and we’ll have to keep close tabs on the situation as it progresses this year.
Will local authorities do more to halt the spread of dental diseases?
Towards the later stages of 2017, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence released a document outlining its proposed guidance regarding oral health in our local areas.
It urged local councils to be more hands on when it comes to creating signposts for dental services in a bid to drive down the spread of diseases associated with poor oral health.
Ewan Bramley Dental Care is most definitely on board with this and we want to see councils take the issue of dental health seriously and come to grips with the massive role it has to play.
Will the water we drink have an impact on tooth decay levels?
As the UK’s newly appointed City of Culture, Hull is also leading the way when it comes to tackling tooth decay. I bet you didn’t know that? In October 2016, the city confirmed that it would add the all important tooth decay deterrent fluoride to its supply of water. In doing so, this could prevent thousands of cases of tooth decay now and in the future. We think it’s vital that all local authorities look into this.
