Do you have chipped, worn, or uneven teeth? Are you embarrassed by the appearance of your teeth?
You don’t always have to go get a crown or braces to fix these problems. Veneers might be the right option for you!
Veneers can fix many flaws such as chips, cracks, discolouration, uneven and even gapped teeth.
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain shells. They bond to the front surface of your teeth. When preparing your teeth, your dentist will take a 3D scan of your teeth. This scan will be sent to the dental lab to enable them to make your veneers so they fit your teeth properly.
Your dentist will check the shade of your teeth at the first appointment. They will check you are happy with the chosen colour of your veneer. Any whitening should be done before this stage.
Veneers are custom-made, so they are perfectly matched to the shape and colour of your teeth.
At your second appointment, the veneers will be fit for you. Each veneer is glued to the tooth using a special adhesive.
What’s good about veneers?
- Cover any flaws
- Make your teeth whiter
- Alter the shape of your tooth
- Stronger than composite veneers
What’s bad about veneers?
- More expensive than composite veneers
- Natural tooth will be prepped prior to fitting.
- Can chip or come off
- Made in a lab so you will require more than one appointment
- Will not change colour with whitening
Will the preparation appointment hurt?
No, it’s won’t really hurt. Your dentist will remove just a small layer of enamel to prepare the teeth. This can be done without using any anesthetic. However, if the dentist is working close to the gumline – or if you have sensitive teeth – they may advise using anesthetic for your comfort.
How will whitening affect my porcelain veneers?
You can whiten your teeth; however, the veneer will not whiten. This is true of any tooth restoration; it will not change colour with whitening gel.
If you are having any treatments such as fillings, veneers, crowns or bridges, we advise you to whiten your teeth first so we can match the restoration to the colour of your teeth, not the other way around.
How long will my porcelain veneers last?
Porcelain veneers will not last a lifetime. However, with proper care they can last 10-15 years.
How can I choose the best dentist for this treatment?
Go to a few consultations and see how you feel about the practice, dentist and price. No one will be offended if you say you will get quotes from other practices. We expect this so don’t worry.
