1. Teeth whitening
What’s it for?
Yellow teeth. Losing the colour of your teeth is part of the ageing process. Teeth start to change colour from teenage years.
Genetics also play a part in white teeth. If your parents have yellow teeth, you are more likely to follow suit. Whitening is for people who suffer from teeth stained by food, drink – mainly red wine, coffee and tea – and tobacco – without harming their teeth.
How does it work?
Professional bleaching is the most usual method of tooth whitening. Ewan Bramley will assess you first to see whether tooth whitening is suitable for you. We will tell you about the options you have for tooth whitening and which will be the most suitable for you.
The most common type of whitening is called ‘dentist-supervised home whitening’. You will have trays made specially to fit into your mouth like gum-shields. The whitening gel is then put in the trays and you will be given a routine to follow at home.
How long does it take?
Teeth Whitening is a quick fix to whiten teeth. The total length of the home bleaching treatment can vary depending on how discoloured your teeth are and the shade you want to get to. It can usually be finished within two to four weeks.
How long does it last?
The effects of whitening can last up to three years. However, this will vary from person to person. The effect is less likely to last as long if you smoke, or eat or drink products that can stain your teeth. We will give our professional opinion before you start the treatment.
Cost: £275(Special offer until end of April £99!)
2. Veneers
What are they for?
This is a versatile technique used to correct crowding in the mouth, cover badly broken teeth, badly stained teeth, reshape teeth or to close up gaps.
How do they work?
Veneers are used to increase the dimension of the tooth, thicken them, make them squarer or longer. Thin slices of porcelain called veneers are shaped and coloured to correspond to the existing teeth. The veneer is bonded onto the front surface of the tooth using a chemical bonding agent. A minimal amount of drilling is used to curve the contours of the veneers.
How long does it take?
A veneer takes at least two visits: the first to prepare the tooth and to match the shade, and the second to fit it. Before bonding it in place, our team of experts will show you the veneer on your tooth to make sure you are happy with it. Bonding a veneer in place is done with a special adhesive, which holds it firmly on the tooth.
How long does it last?
Veneers should last for many years; but they can chip or break, just as your own teeth can. Ewan Bramley Dental Care will tell you how long each individual veneer should last. Small chips can be repaired, or a new veneer can be fitted if necessary.
Cost (for 4 or more): From £500
3. Teeth straightening
There are two ways to straighten teeth, either cosmetically or with orthodontics – the area of dentistry concerned with the prevention and correction of irregularities of the teeth. We also use the revolutionary American FastBraces technique to give our patients the perfect smile quickly and we also have Invisible Braces.
What are Invisible Braces?
They are tough, clear plastic ‘aligners’ (moulds) that are used to straighten teeth. Several sets of specially moulded, slightly different aligners are made for each patient. Each set is worn for two weeks before being replaced with the next one. They are made from clear plastic, so they are nearly invisible. This means that no one need know you are straightening your teeth.
Who is it for?
For people with crowded teeth, crooked teeth or tilting teeth. All these problems can trap food which can lead to gum disease and tooth decay.
How does it work?
The most important thing is to have a full examination. This will usually involve looking at your teeth, taking x-rays and making plaster models of your teeth. We will then discuss what treatment is possible.
How long does it take?
The length of treatment depends on how severe the problem is, and may take anything from a few months one and a half years. Most people can be treated in a year.
Cost: Invisible Braces from £500
4. Dental Implants
What are they for?
To bridge a gap where a tooth is missing, or to close a gap.
How do they work?
A dental implant is used to support one or more false teeth. It is a titanium screw that can replace the root of a tooth when it fails. Just like a tooth root, it is placed into the jawbone.
How long does it take and are they safe?
Implants are a safe, well-established, tried-and-tested treatment. Ewan Bramley Dental Care will be able to give you a rough timetable before the treatment starts. Usually the permanent false teeth are fitted 3 to 4 months after the implants are put in.
How long does it last?
Much like natural teeth, dental implants will last for as long as you care for them.
How well you look after your implants – and whether you go for your regular maintenance appointments – will have the biggest impact on how long they will last.
Cost: From £1,250
