You may have read in the press this week that if fillings aren’t placed correctly, they could actually do more harm than good.
It’s not the kind of headline most dentists want to read, but according to research, fillings can reportedly increase the risk of tooth decay in other teeth and the incorrect approach can lead to long-term damage.
Thankfully, Ewan Bramley Dental Care, a leading Newcastle private dentist, only uses first class procedures combined with outstanding patient care at the state-of-the-art practice on the Fish Quay. Don’t believe us? Read our reviews!
So, just what have the papers been saying about fillings and tooth decay?
According to the national media and research published in the Journal of Dentistry, fillings, if done poorly can increase the chances of tooth decay leading to yet more fillings in neighbouring teeth.
Some experts have warned that the trauma caused by the original filling may be the reason for other teeth becoming prone to damage and infection. The study also finds that certain dentists in the UK have patients that have new decay after a filling has been fitted.
Reacting to the news, Dr Ewan Bramley has welcomed the study and has suggested that more research is needed to find out why certain practices are causing these problems.
The study has revealed that six out of ten teeth that lay next to a filling had decayed inside five years, and almost 30% of these teeth then required a filling.
The study has highlighted that when a dentist goes into a tooth they can unintentionally cause damage to another. Ewan Bramley Dental Care prides itself on keeping up to date with all of the modern dental techniques to make sure this doesn’t ever happen.
Patients, of course, need fillings and all dentists need to be careful with their methods. Ewan Bramley uses minimal intervention to lower the chances of any damage and decay.
