Causes of Receding Gums

Receding gums are not just unsightly but can also be painful and potentially damaging to teeth. See your dentist to ensure that gum recession is treated immediately — to prevent any further damage.

There are a number of reasons why gums recede and among the most common are:

– Poor dental care including failure to brush and floss teeth properly

– Gum disease due to a buildup of bacteria

– Bruxism (teeth grinding) which can irritate gum tissue

Other causes include aggressive brushing which “can cause the gums to begin to pull back from the teeth” and smoking. Read more about gum recession at https://yourdentalhealthresource.com/what-are-the-causes-of-a-receding-gum-line/
