Wouldn’t it be great if there were a way you could find out easily how good or bad your local dentist is? Well guess what? Now you can thanks to a new national ranking system launched by a watchdog.
And Dr. Ewan Bramley thinks it’s a “bold and positive” move that will root out poor dentists and give people easy access to safe and affordable cosmetic dentists in the North East.
The Care Quality Commission has announced that it is changing the way it regulates and inspects health and social care services in the United Kingdom.
The CQC says the new approach to regulation and inspection will be developed in partnership with other national organisations, dental care providers and people who use dental services. A formal consultation and the start of trial inspections will begin in November 2014.
Under the proposals, dentists will be rated from ‘outstanding’ to ‘inadequate’. The CQC will begin by inspecting 10 per cent of providers from spring 2015, focusing attention on those that have ‘cause for concern’.
Ewan Bramley said: “The move by the CQC is brilliant for the dental sector and for the thousands of amazing dentists out there in the UK. But most importantly it gives the chance for patients to have access to the highest possible standards of dental care.
“Ewan Bramley Dental Care supports any positive action that combats poor dental standards and gives patients up to date and practical information needed to make informed choices about by whom, and where they and their family decide to be treated.”
The statement, released by the watchdog on 18 August, considers whether every inspection team should include a dental specialist advisor and people with extensive understanding of dental services, acting as ‘experts by experience’.
The CQC also intends to develop its role in encouraging improvement through its inspection reports and exploration of themed reviews.
