Genetic Factors and Damaged Teeth

Scientists and dentists have carried out studies to try and determine why some people are more prone to tooth enamel erosion than others and it would seem that genetics play a significant role.

Exposure to acidic foods and drinks plays a large part in the erosion of enamel but it would appear that there could be a genetic predisposition to weaker enamel. Females are more likely to have stronger enamel due to genes, but their eating habits (and eating disorders) as well as dental hygiene can take a toll.

Any possible inherited problems should be discussed with your dentist as “genes play a role” and you can read more at https://medicalxpress.com/news/2018-01-girls-stronger-teeth-boys.html.
