Scientists and dentists have carried out studies to try and determine why some people are more prone to tooth enamel erosion than others and it would seem that genetics play a significant role.

Exposure to acidic foods and drinks plays a large part in the erosion of enamel but it would appear that there could be a genetic predisposition to weaker enamel. Females are more likely to have stronger enamel due to genes, but their eating habits (and eating disorders) as well as dental hygiene can take a toll.
