Opioid addiction has become a real problem in the United States and ironically, many users begin this journey by taking a prescription. There are times when a dentist will prescribe an opioid after a procedure such as removing wisdom teeth. Certain professionals feel that other alternatives could be much safer options. Some recent findings include:
– 75 per cent of opioid abuse results from an initial prescription.
– NSAIDs may be nearly as effective after a dental treatment.
– Countries such as the United Kingdom are less likely to recommend an opioid.
