With the New Year now in full swing, many of us are at our most health conscious and want to look good and feel great for the year ahead.

Ewan Bramley Dental Care, a Newcastle Dentist, in this article gives you all of the inside hints and tips to keep your teeth healthy and sparkly way beyond January and throughout 2017.

The number one rule to maintaining dental perfection is to visit your dentist on a regular basis. Even if you’re flossing and brushing every day, this doesn’t mean that dental challenges won’t crop up.

Let’s take a look at some of our best tips that we tell our patients here at Ewan Bramley Care Newcastle Dentist…

Brushing Properly makes all the difference

This may sound obvious but you’d be amazed at how many people don’t do it properly. When you brush, make sure the bristles on your brush are placed at a 45-degree angle close to the line of the gums.

Also, make sure you brush at least twice a day to ensure that any acid build up is removed as a result of the food and drink you’ve consumed.

And don’t forget your tongue. A tongue cleaner can get rid of many organisms that are living there. This sounds gross, but if you want to get rid of them, and have fresh, healthy breath, this will do the trick.

Make sure you floss

Although new reports suggest that flossing may not be all it’s cracked up to be, we still believe that it can help you removed detrimental particles that rest between those hard to reach places in between your teeth. Remember, we only clean 66% of our teeth through brushing, so it’s vital that you don’t miss a daily floss.

Excessive Alcohol and smoking aren’t a good idea

You would have heard your dentist say this before, but smoking is extremely bad for our teeth and our health in general. If you managed to give up smoking, you’ll be saved from a whole host of complications down the line, including the risk of getting mouth cancer. Of course, it’s OK to enjoy a drink responsibly, but if you do it too often, an excess of phosphorus will build in your mouth which is known to deplete calcium levels in your teeth and in your body. Less calcium equals a higher risk of dental decay.

Take Vitamins and calcium on a regular basis

Calcium and vitamins are brilliant for your teeth and are also a welcome presence in your body. To get a good source of calcium, eat and drink things like milk, yoghurt, cheese, broccoli and other dairy products.

Vitamins D and B are key to healthy teeth and gums. If you have jaw pain or a toothache, make sure you see your dentist as this could mean that you have a deficiency of the above.
